Weakened Interest in Sports Betting Cuts Down Italy’s Online GGR

As the latest news in the finance sector of the Italian gambling industry informs, the total GGR is greatly influenced by the online and land-based betting verticals.

According to the report provided by Ficom Leisure, June and July have a difference in gambling revenue due to the financial results of some sectors.

June’s and July’s GGR in figures

During June 2021, the gambling business in Italy has generated €263m, in comparison to July’s €207m. The drop in GGR was mostly impacted by the sports betting vertical, which wasn’t much-in-demand in July. Speaking about both online and retail markets, its revenue decreased from €215m in June to €97m in July. If to consider digital wagering on sports separately, its revenue was down to €63m from €113m. The casino news is more promising, however, this vertical has also fallen from €134m to €128m in the previous month.

The casino market still has the biggest revenue share – more than sixty-two percent. Sports betting is the second in this ranking with 30.5%. Bingo, poker cash games and tournaments have the smallest percentage as for the online gaming revenue.
