UK Casinos Expect Support from the Government

By | December 17, 2021

The UK casinos expect to get the COVID-19 support package to keep working in the pandemic restrictions conditions, and the local casino news media notice the significance of land-based casinos. Michael Dugher, chief executive of the Betting and Gaming Council, shared his thoughts on the possible anti-pandemic restrictions. Will the government support UK casinos?

Michael Dugher compares casinos to the hospitality sector like pubs and restaurants. He’s also expecting Westminster to provide a support package for casinos in case of restrictions launching. However, the government hasn’t announced any lockdown measures like at the beginning of the global pandemic. And all the expectations and requirements to the ministers are based on fear of possible lockdown actions.

The health government department has reminded people to keep their distance and avoid unnecessary contact before Christmas. Because of such an announcement, Chancellor Rishi Sunak was called to prepare an economic package again.

Guide to the UK land-based casino sector

The total number of casinos in the country is 120, with 11 600 workers. Their financial contribution is over £1.2 billion to the economy thanks to paying £600 million taxes.

Michael Dugher notices the irreplaceable offline casinos’ role in the whole country’s budget of the entire country. He also mentions that casinos have been trying to recover from the anti-pandemic restrictions and bans from the government in recent years. And the dynamic just started to be positive. But if the new rules are launched, the recovery process will probably stop again.
