As the news on gambling law in Spain informs, the new restrictions on gambling ads in the country entered into effect today, on August 31.
From now on, advertising of private gambling and betting operators will be strictly limited on TV, radio, and the internet. However, promotional campaigns of the state lottery and state-owned gambling ops are allowed.
The gambling ads can only run from 1 am to 5 am
Under the new law, gambling ads can be broadcasted only in a short time range between 1 am and 5 am. The contents of the ads should also be adjusted and protect problem gamblers and vulnerable audiences. The offers from betting and casino sites should be directed only at registered and verified players.
In addition, the bookmakers are not allowed to sponsor sports clubs and place any ads at the stadiums and on the uniforms of any players, including the highest-paid footballers. The broadcast of gambling ads during the sports event must adhere to the same rules as other gambling promotions.
The gambling ops that failed to comply with the regulations will be fined up to €1 million.
The regulation of gambling advertising is a part of the Royal Decree, which was approved in November 2020.
