The KSA Explained All the Features of Rules for Gambling Ads

According to the latest news on the legislation sector, the regulation system pays more attention to gambling advertisements. Kansspelautoriteit, the Dutch gambling regulator, has announced new rules for gambling ads and answered all questions about the Remote Gambling Act, which has started being active on 1 April 2021.

New requirements for gambling advertising, which are based on the Games of Chance Act, have started being active on 1 April 2021.

What cannot be used in gambling ads:

personal information of gamblers;
professional athletes and sports teams;
role models of people under 25 and people who have an influence on the youth under 25.

According to the Media Act (2008), there’s no opportunity to broadcast gambling advertisements on TV from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. This restriction has been active since November 1, 2020.

The websites, games, or apps are not allowed for advertisements sharing.

There’re also different requirements for operators with different licenses. This information is mentioned on the official site of the regulator.

Special attention to the vulnerable groups

The Gambling Authority of Netherlands is very attentive to the groups, which can be affected by the gambling ads more than others. 

Aspects that the KSA assesses:

content and a model role;
the media platform or social media;
time and location;
target audience.

The KSA asks operators to pay more attention to the advertisement and the audience who are at risk for gambling addiction.
