By | January 3, 2022

Recently, Mike DeWine, a governor and an official from Ohio, has signed up a House Bill 29, which allows making bets on sports events in the state. According to the latest bookmaking news, this bill will come into action no earlier than 1 January 2023.

The bill came to DeWine’s office on 8 December and was signed up on 22 December 2021.

Ohio Casino Control Commission will be in charge. For the following months, the authority will draft the rules for the industry for the state. Only after this step, the regulatory body will be able to accept applications for getting a license. But this process will possibly be in the summer or fall the next year.

As part of the bill, casinos, bars, restaurants, and stadiums will be allowed to offer sports betting. Moreover, sports betting applications will also be legal to provide this service.

However, there will be three different licenses that can be applied for different matters. A Type A license will work for online sportsbooks running by operators. The approximate cost is estimated at $2.5 million. A Type B license will be needed for retail sportsbooks, and a Type C license perfectly fits kiosks that want to offer sports betting.

In one of the News Cental 7 channel interviews, DeWine commented that he did not see any reason not to sign this document. After that, Niraj J. Antani, an American Republican Party politician, said that Ohioans had to be able to make bets on sports within the state also because all the neighboring states already had this permit.

Ohio Legislative Service Commission has already estimated the possible profit of the market, which should be $3.35 billion.
