Spanish Active Players May Be Left Without Credit Cards

According to the latest financial news, the online gambling market of Spain is going through some changes. The Spanish authority is going to block credit cards of the most active gamblers under 25. What’s the next step of the Minister of Consumption? And what restrictions will be next?  

Alberto Garzon, the Minister of Consumption, took a new vector for the protection of the gamblers and their money. The new restriction for gamblers under 25 on using credit cards is the new draft royal decree. The Ministry of Consumption seeks to pay more attention to gamblers’ protection. It’s the main goal of 2021.

Whose cards can be blocked?

intensive gamblers;
users who spend more than €150 every month;
users under 25 years old.

If the Council of Ministers chaired by Pedro Sanchez and the Congress of Deputies will approve the process of blocking cards, it will be necessary to start the development of Article 8 for the protection of players, and responsible gambling policies, provided in Law 13/2011, of May 27, which regulates gambling.

What are the possible consequences?

The General Directorate for the Regulation of Gambling has provided 2020 data, which say how many gamblers will face the restrictions. This bill will affect around 1 million users in Spain.

In general, one gambler spends €503 per year (€44.46 per month for bingo, poker, and bets).
