According to the latest news dedicated to the legislation in the Lithuanian gambling industry, the country’s government decided to impose a ban on advertising.
This followed the government’s previous warnings to operators about compliance with the law in terms of advertising.
The ban covers all types of promotion
The new amendment to the law will come into effect on July 1, 2021. The veto is put on all forms of advertising, including TV, radio, bonuses, all types of promotions, gifts to players, etc. The major aim of these sweeping changes in the industry’s legislation is to fight against problem gambling.
The ban was supported by over one hundred parliament members. As the data on the Lithuanian market show, many operators don’t provide promised bonuses after attracting clients with their help. The number of complaints related to this issue has recently increased. This has provoked the government to reconsider the law, especially those parts connected with ads, which will restrain gambling companies from illegal offers. However, the representatives of the country’s gambling organization are sure that the prohibition will only give a green light to the black market.
