Kevin Durant Set to Undergo Further Testing Next Week

By | March 12, 2021

The Brooklyn Nets won’t be having Kevin Durant back anytime soon.

According to head coach Steve Nash, KD is slated for further testing on his strained left hamstring and has an indefinite timeline.

In a media session held on Wednesday, Nash said Durant is expected to undergo imaging on his injury next week and he hopes that the scans will produce a clearer return timeline for the Nets superstar.

Third Scan for KD

Next week’s scan will be the third for Durant since he suffered the injury in a game against his former team, the Golden State Warriors. The first scan was inconclusive while the second one shortly before the All-Star break indicated that his timeline could be extended.

Despite the injury, Nash says that Durant has been able to do light workout with the team. Per Nash, KD has been joining shooting drills and half-court work. However, the Brooklyn head coach confirmed that Durant is still not playing 5-on-5 basketball or doing full-court, high-speed running

However, because Durant has not played in a month, Nash says that they won’t rush Durant back even if the scans yield a positive result. He added that they are going to give him ramp-up time to make sure that they put him in a position where he can finish the season strong. After all, the Nets will need him more in the postseason than right now, because they are rolling.

Nets Are Rolling Without Durant

Durant has looked spectacular since his return from an Achilles injury. KD has averaged 29 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game while shooting 52.4% from the floor and 43.4% from three-point distance. However, he has missed half of the team’s 38 games played so far this year.

But the Nets have not missed Durant a bit, at least for now as they have gone 9-1 in the 10 games that he’s sat out with his current injury. Brooklyn has gotten a huge lift from the arrival of James Haden via trade last January. Since acquiring Harden, Brooklyn has gone from 7-6  to their current 25-13 slate.

In their first game back from the All-Star break, the Nets defeated a Boston Celtics team that had Marcus Smart back and had won four straight games heading to the break. Kyrie Irving top scored with 40 points against his former team while Harden had 22 points, 10 rebounds, and 8 assists in another all-around effort. The win was Brooklyn’s 12th in their last 13 games.

Nets New Championship Favorites

The Nets have now moved to within one-half game of the Eastern Conference leaders Philadelphia 76ers and they have the 4th best record in the league. Since the signing of Blake Griffin, the Nets have overtaken the Lakers as the 2021 NBA Championship favorites at 13/5 via the online sportsbook BetOnline.

The defending champions had been the odds-on favorite in the best NBA betting sites since the 2021 championship odds opened but with their recent slump and Brooklyn’s ascent, they have flipped positions in the odds boards of the best NBA betting sites. Los Angeles is now listed at 14/5 in the same online sportsbook.

There’s no question that Kevin Durant is still the best player on the Nets and they are going to need him come playoffs time if they are to win the NBA title. But right now, Steve Nash won’t be too worried about having him continue to miss regular season games for as long as they continue to win games. Imagine how good they will be with him back, whenever that will be.
