HGC: Greek Online Gambling Market Is Officially Open

By | August 10, 2021

The latest news on legal changes in the Greek iGaming industry reports that the Hellenic Gaming Commission (HGC) has recently completed the second stage of the licensing process for online gambling ops.

The Commission has allowed games of chance providers to legally offer their services under the gambling license on their casino sites. This means that the regulated iGaming market in Greece is officially open.

The iGaming market of Greece was in the transition for the past decade. The gambling ops in the country were operating under the temporary licenses or documents issued in other EU counties since 2011. Now, however, as the gambling activity in the Hellenic Republic is supervised by law, Greek players can feel more secure. HGC states that it will ensure player protection, responsible gaming, transparency of transactions and gambling profits, and healthy competition in the newly formed iGaming market.

13 out of 15 applicants receive Greek gambling license

Out of 15 HGC’s licensees, the gaming regulator has reviewed and approved applications of 13 ops. As of August 6, they can officially conduct their operations under the Greek regulatory framework. Two remaining operators can’t go live yet, as their applications are currently under evaluation.

Although the second phase of licensing process is already wrapped up, all interested parties can still apply to the Hellenic Gambling Commission for the online gambling license.
