Danish gambling continues to gain momentum — it has brought in DKK513m from May 2021, which is 29.9% more than the same month last year.
However, the revenue turned out to be less than in April 2021. This has been linked with the opening of land-based sites all across the country. Stay up to date with the latest trending financial news about the gambling industry worldwide.
Compared to April 2021 sports betting from May 2021 was down 24.8%, but up 83.5% from May 2020, when almost every sports event in the world was canceled due to the COVID-19 outbreak. A similar situation occurs for online gambling — up 2.7% from 2020 and down 3.5% from April.
But the main changes took place in the area of land-based casinos and slots, which finally opened after the quarantine. Slots revenue jumped more than 400% compared to April but is still 57.4% lower than in May 2019. And land-based casinos registered profits for the first time in 2021, earning DKK11m from May 21st. This is reported by the Danish Gambling Authority.
Spillemyndigheden also reported that in 2020, 90% of gamblers used licensed gambling operators — it’s the highest percentage yet.
