Flutter to Join UK National Lottery Bidding via Sisal Purchase

By | December 27, 2021

According to the lottery sector news, the Irish gambling company Flutter Entertainment has acquired Sisal – one of the biggest Italian lottery and betting operators. The €1.91bn deal is expected to finalize in the second quarter of 2022.

For Flutter, this purchase secures a strong position in Italy – the second biggest regulated gambling market in Europe. The deal is in line with the company’s plan to take strategic places in the regulated gambling jurisdictions across the globe. Flutter Entertainment already owns betting giants like Betfair, Paddy Power, and SkyBet.

With this deal Flutter also gets a chance to participate in the UK National Lottery bidding, as Sisal was one of four bidders for the 10-year license. The other applicants are:

Camelot – current National Lottery licensee;
Sazka – European lottery giant;
Sugal & Damani – the biggest Indian lottery operator

The Gambling Commission of the UK will announce the bidding results in February 2022.

At the same time, Flutter didn’t include any info about the National Lottery contest in its statement about the Sisal takeover.
