AGA: US Gaming Revenue in 2021 Broke the 2019 Record

The American Gaming Authority (AGA) has reported on the commercial revenue collected in the US gambling sector throughout 2021. According to the most recent financial news, the industry has generated $44.15 billion in GGR so far in 2021.

The authority reports that the 2021 US commercial revenue has already surpassed the 2019 all-time-high GGR of $43.65 billion. However, multiple states are yet to provide data for November and December 2021, sharing info only for October 2021. AGA predicts that the total gambling revenue will reach around $50 billion this year.

In the first ten months of 2021, gaming revenue in 11 of 25 US states has already exceeded the 2019 annual GGR. And Colorado, Iowa, Massachusetts, Michigan, South Dakota, and Pennsylvania have already broken the previous revenue records. 

Commercial revenue in October 2021 is the second-highest ever

The US authority has also updated its gaming revenue tracker, providing the financial data for October 2021. The month saw the state of Connecticut legalizing online gambling and sports betting. Connecticut is now the 34th US state that regulates commercial gaming. In October, there were also two extra weekends, compared to 2019. It all led to a total monthly revenue of $4.75 billion – the second-highest GGR in the history of US gambling. The monthly GGR has exceeded $4bm for eight consecutive months.

The October gambling revenue is also 30.7% higher than the financial results in the corresponding period in 2019 and is 4.8% up from the September level.

The casino sector continues to drive the growth of the US gambling industry, with profits from slot machines amounting to $2.84 billion and table games generating $831.2 million in October 2021. 16.1% of total October revenue came from the sports betting and remote gambling sectors. $407.7 million was collected from betting on the most popular sports events, and $347.3 million was spent on the iGaming sector.
