Oaklawn Park: Jackie’s Warrior Returns in Count Fleet Handicap

By | April 14, 2022

Oaklawn Park will host a full weekend of racing. The marquee event will be the Count Fleet Handicap on Saturday featuring one of the best sprinters in training.

Count Fleet Sprint Handicap Analysis

This stakes race is identified as a handicap. Unlike traditional stakes races handicap races have a twist. Much like a handicap for a golfer these races are meant to level the playing field. The racing secretary will evaluate the field and assign weight to be carried by each horse.

This means that the most talented runner in the field will run with a weighted saddle in order to give the others a better chance of being competitive.

Jackie's Warrior is the rightful favorite in the Count Fleet Handicap at Oaklawn Park.

Oaklawn Park Race 11

Post: 5:42 PM CT; Purse: $500,000 Count Fleet Sprint H., 6 Furlongs on Dirt; Entries: 6

  • #5 JACKIE’S WARRIOR (6-5) will be carrying a race max 123 pounds. That is 8 pounds more than than the two lightest in the field. Nevertheless this one looks formidable here given the edge in a number of key categories. His dazzling front end brilliance should be more than enough against this group.
  • #6 BOB’S EDGE (2-1) will carry the 2nd highest weight at 121 and is really good at this 6 furlong distance. The problem is if Jackie’s Warrior is Jackie’s Warrior then he’s running for the exacta.
  • #3 LETSGETLUCKY (6-1) is one of two carrying only 115 pounds in the race. This one will be forward, but that is a bit of a concern if the horse were to hook up with the favorite early. If Garcia can rate in behind, this one could sit in a great spot all the way around the track.
  • #4 EMPIRE OF GOLD (6-1) is out of Goldencents who throws some solid sprinters. This field is top heavy so this one would have to be considered a fringe player at best.

Selections: 5-6-3-4 (Best Bet: #5 JACKIE’S WARRIOR)
