Gulfstream Park Thursday: Claimers Take Center Stage

The Thursday card from Gulfstream Park features a host of claiming types. These runners are the life blood of American thoroughbred racing.

Gulfstream Park- Race 1

Post: 12:10 PM ET; $35k Maiden Claiming going 1 mile on turf; Entries: 8

  • #5 TURF ACCOUNTANT (2-1) gets the top selection. She will be rolling late and has a good closing kick that could get the job done here. This one looks to be the class of the field.
  • #3 ALWAYS ROYAL (3-1) could be in with a shot in this race. She makes sense on speed figures. This one has to be respected with Ortiz in the irons.
  • #8 PSYCHEDELIC (3-1) makes sense on speed figures. This one could be a dangerous threat to get loose on the front end.
  • #6 LUMINANT (8-1) debuts here and isn’t without hope. She goes out for the Sano barn and gets Zayas in the irons.

  • #7 MARLEY LUCK (4-1) is the top pick. He will likely be out on or near the lead and will look to hold off the charge to the wire. This one goes out for the Gutierrez barn and gets Vasquez in the irons.
  • #1 CHRISTENSEN (5-1) appears to be a major player in this race. This one has really consistent pace figures which should work well in a moderately paced race.
  • #4 FACE ABARRIO (6-1) should be competitive in this spot. He should be part of the early pace in this spot. This one shouldn’t have trouble with the 5 furlong distance.
  • #6 EXTENDO (8-5) runs evenly and looks to get a very fair pace scenario here. This one has the top overall power rating in the group.

  • #4 EASY AS A. B. C. (1-1) looks best here. He has the pedigree to be a major player in this spot. This one should be sitting in the second tier of runners and looking to make one well timed run at the leaders.
  • #1 MOUSEFAST (9-2) should improve off the first start and seems to be running for the minor placings in this contest. He could be a dangerous threat to get loose on the front end. This one has to be respected going out for the combination of D’Angelo and Saez.
  • #7 DISCREETLY THRIFTY (5-1) seems to be running for the minor placings in this contest. He seems to fit well enough here.
  • #5 ALDO’S DREAM (10-1) is a price horse and has solid early pace figures in a race that looks to lack a ton of front running speed.

  • #3 WILDCAT STAR (4-1) gets the top selection. She could be a dangerous threat to get loose on the front end. This one has races good enough to beat this group.
  • #5 SPICY GINGER (8-5) could be in with a shot in this race. She has to be respected going out for the combination of Weaver and Saez. This one comes into the race in really good form.
  • #1 MARTHAMAYWHOVIER (5-1) feels like a fringe contender in this spot. She makes sense on speed figures.
  • #4 SONGTELLER (6-1) is a good bet to hit the board in this type of race.

  • #4 PRINCIPLED STAND (9-5) is the top pick. He has races good enough to beat this group. This one should be part of the early pace in this spot.
  • #5 BORDER TOWN (7-2) should be competitive in this spot. He may benefit from a hot pace up front. This one has to be respected going out for the combination of Maker and Ortiz.
  • #2 DOMINATE THEMOMENT (10-1) is a price horse and feels like a fringe contender in this spot. He makes sense on speed figures.
  • #1 INHALATION (5-1) comes into the race in really good form.

  • #8 FIFTY ONE FIFTY (3-1) looks best here. He seems to fit well enough here. This one has been really solid in recent starts and should be ready to run a big one here.
  • #2 DREAM ON BABY (6-1) isn’t without hope. He makes sense on speed figures. This one has solid early pace figures in a race that looks to lack a ton of front running speed.
  • #1 DEVIL’S CAY (5-1) should improve off the first start and is probably best to put underneath on most tickets. He has solid early pace figures in a race that looks to lack a ton of front running speed.

Gulfstream Park- Race 7

Post: 3:07 PM ET; $72k Allowance Optional Claiming going 7 furlongs on dirt; Entries: 9

  • #2 DR POST (7-5) gets the top selection. He has to be respected going out for the combination of Pletcher and Ortiz. This one has really consistent pace figures which should work well in a moderately paced race.
  • #1 ENDORSED (2-1) isn’t without hope. He runs evenly and looks to get a very fair pace scenario here.
  • #4 PACO’S PICO (6-1) is probably best to put underneath on most tickets. He will likely be in the first flight of runners and should be in with a chance late. This one has proven to be able to handle these conditions in previous starts.
  • #8 SHIVAREE (15-1) is a hard trying horse that wouldn’t be a surprise to find the number here.

  • #12 SOSUA SUMMER (4-1) is the top pick. He shouldn’t have trouble with the 5 furlong distance. This one comes into the race in really good form.
  • #7 NOT PHAR NOW (9-2) appears to be a major player in this race. He has races good enough to beat this group. This one has the top overall power rating in the group.
  • #4 DR. DUKE (10-1) is a price horse and feels like a fringe contender in this spot. He has been really solid in recent starts and should be ready to run a big one here. This one could get the right setup in this race.
  • #8 CITY MISCHIEF (10-1) isn’t without hope. He has proven to be able to handle these conditions in previous starts.

  • #8 BERNARDO’S LEGACY (2-1) looks best here. He has the pedigree to be a major player in this spot.
  • #4 SMOOTH RICO (8-1) feels like a fringe contender in this spot. He seems to fit well enough here. The blood lines don’t make this one impossible.
  • #2 MR. AMERICAN (5-2) has proven to be able to handle these conditions in previous starts. This one looks to be the class of the field.
  • #6 MIDNIGHT GETAWAY (6-1) is probably best to put underneath on most tickets. He has solid early pace figures in a race that looks to lack a ton of front running speed.
