Dolphins vs. Bears Betting: Will the Tua train keep rolling in the Windy City?

By | November 2, 2022

When Tua Tagovailoa has been on the field this season, the Miami Dolphins have been one of the best teams in the NFL. In Week 9, they will look to extend that run to 6-1 with Tua when they visit the Chicago Bears for a Sunday afternoon matchup.

In Detroit this past Sunday, the Dolphins rallied from an early 14-0 deficit to down the Lions 31-27. After allowing 27 first-half points, Miami pitched a shutout in the second half at Ford Field.

This week, they will tackle another NFC North opponent on the road, facing a Bears team that had a rough Week 8 in Dallas, going down 49-29 to the Cowboys.

Will Week 9 be equally as rough? The Dolphins make the trip to the Windy City off of back-to-back wins with Tua back in tow, and they made a splash before the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday, picking up linebacker Bradley Chubb from the Denver Broncos and running back Jeff Wilson Jr. from the San Francisco 49ers.

Will Miami’s Offense Destroy a Depleted Defense?

Like the Dolphins, the Bears were busy before the trade deadline.

Offensively, they made an interesting move by trading a second-round pick in next year’s NFL Draft to the Pittsburgh Steelers for receiver Chase Claypool, giving Justin Fields a new weapon.

Their most notable moves were on the other side of the ball, however. Last week, they traded veteran pass rusher Robert Quinn to the Philadelphia Eagles, and this week, they shipped tackle machine Roquan Smith to the Baltimore Ravens.

After giving up six offensive touchdowns and 442 total yards to the Cowboys last week, the Bears weren’t going to be heading into their matchup with the Dolphins on the right foot as it is. But with Smith now in Baltimore, the defense certainly isn’t any less vulnerable against an offense that racked up 476 yards against the Lions and then added Wilson, who ran for 353 yards in Weeks 2 through 5 before seeing diminished touches over his last three weeks with the Niners.

Detroit is dreadful defensively, but that doesn’t diminish how good Tua was in Sunday’s win, going 29 of 36 for 382 yards and three scores. His injury issues came at a time when he was on an upward trajectory, and he has picked up where he left off. As a result, the Bears stand to have their hands full this week.

Miami Dolphins vs. Chicago Bears Prediction and Best Bets

Dolphins vs. Bears Prediction: Dolphins to win

Dolphins vs. Bears Best Bets: Dolphins team total over (Best Value: over 25.5 @ -110 at FanDuel & Caesars Sportsbook) & both teams to score 20+ points (Best Value: +142 at FanDuel)

Two of the Bears’ three wins this season have come at home, and they should be three for three but failed to win a game they should have against the Washington Commanders in Week 6.

So, I certainly don’t discount the possibility that they could upset the odds in this one.

Chicago’s offense certainly did a lot of good things against the Cowboys. Fields completed 17 of 23 passes and accounted for three touchdowns, while the ground game racked up 240 yards, with Fields, Khalil Herbert, and David Montgomery all picking up at least 50 yards.

The addition of Claypool might have been an expensive one, but it can only help the offense’s growth and production. And after scoring 33 points against the Patriots and 29 against the Cowboys, I think the Bears will be able to put some points on the board against the Dolphins.

But I like where Tua and the Dolphins are headed right now even more, and I expect things to keep rolling for Miami this week.
