The Lightning are back in the series after a dominating win on home ice in Game 3. They chased starting goaltender Darcy Kuemper, and scored 4 goals alone in the second period.
Six different players got in on the scoring for Tampa Bay. It all started in the first period when back-to-back goals by Anthony Cirelli and Ondrej Palat shifted the momentum in the favor of the home team. The goal by Palat extended his home point streak to 14 games.
The second period was the real downfall of the Avalanche. They allowed Tampa way too much room on the ice, and they surrendered 4 goals on 15 shots. Rookie Pavel Francouz, entered the game and limited the damage to 1 goal on 12 shots.
The Lightning have won 8 straight at home during the playoffs, and after their most embarrassing loss in franchise history, it’s exactly what the doctor ordered. Tampa looked like a fish out of water in the first two games of the series, but they have life.
The Avalanche still haven’t been the underdog this postseason, but Game 4 will be the closest thing to it. The teams are even on the moneyline, according to FanDuel. Just like in Game 3, the Avalanche are not the overwhelming favorite.

What Changed for Tampa?
The Lightning handed the Avalanche their first road loss of the playoffs on Monday. Colorado’s previous record was 7-0, and they clinched all of their series with a road win.
Tampa looked like a completely different team in Game 3. They became the first team since 1919 to win a Stanley Cup Final game after giving up 7+ goals in the previous contest. They did it the way they know best.
They got back to their defensive roots and blocked 27 shot attempts by the Avalanche. They kept their aggressive nature present with 40 hits and 25 penalty minutes. However, they killed off two of the power plays that Colorado had and limited them to a 2 for 4 night.
Tampa was outshot 39-34, but it didn’t matter with Vasilevskiy in net. He got back to his old self and shut down the speedy Colorado offense. He allowed 2 goals or less for a playoff-leading 10th time.
Tampa isn’t all the way back yet, but an impressive performance, and improvement in Game 3, has the Lightning within striking distance. They get one more game at home in Game 4 before having to pack their bags and head back to Colorado. Will they extend their home winning streak to 9 games?
Avalanche vs. Lightning Prediction and Best Bets
Avalanche vs. Lightning Prediction: Lightning 3, Avalanche 2
Avalanche vs. Lightning Best Bets: Lightning ML (-105 at Caesars Sportsbook and BetRivers)
The Lightning look like a completely different team. Their goalie is back to top form, and they haven’t lost at home since their home opener in Round 1.
The defense is key for Tampa. If they continue to block a large amount of shots and break up plays in their defensive zone, they have a chance to even the series.
With. everything we saw in Game 3, it’s good value to take the Lightning in Game 4. Their aggressive approach is working, and they have successfully slowed down the Avalanche attack. They will need another strong showing, and the urgency will be present.
