The draft and free agency has adjusted some of the odds this summer, but the top contenders are similar to last season. Teams like Colorado, Carolina, Toronto, and Tampa Bay top the list, while others like Chicago and Arizona find themselves towards the bottom again.

2023 Stanley Cup Title Favorites

Colorado Avalanche +450

The Avalanche were impressive in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, posting a 16-4 record and raising the Cup. They lead in the odds from Day 1, and the lines continued to get shorter as the season progressed.

The Avalanche have done a great job this offseason, signing back a lot of their core players that helped with their recent playoff run. Players like Darren Helm, Josh Manson, and Valeri Nichushkin all came to terms on new contracts that will have the team as a strong contender for many years.

With it being so early in the year, it is hard to know exactly how a team will do when the season hits. However, this team is so loaded with stars that it will be a shock to see anything less than a deep playoff run.

Carolina Hurricanes +1000

The Hurricanes made a decent run last season as they were knocked out in the second round of the Stanley cup Playoffs. The addition of Brent Burns and Max Pacioretty has the team even stronger on offense and defense.

The Canes finished as the third best team in the regular season, but couldn’t quite put things together in the playoffs. They have plenty of offensive firepower with players like Sebastian Aho, Andrei Svechnikov, and Teuvo Teravainen who combined for 89 goals.

The betting value is there for Carolina. As the Avalanche are heavy favorites, all the other teams have better value at +1000 or higher. The Canes are tied as the favorites in the Eastern Conference. With their point total last year, they are a solid bet for 2023.

Toronto Maple Leafs +1000

Will the curse be broken in 2023? The Leafs have had a rough go of things recently, as they have failed to advance in the playoffs in 5 straight appearances. This past season was one of their best during the regular season as they finished 2nd in the Atlantic Division.

The Leafs have the top offensive producer in the league. Auston Matthews reached the 60 goal plateau last season, and he was one of the best on the team in their playoff series against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

They hold about the same value as the Hurricanes. They share the top spot with the Canes in the Eastern Conference odds. They had the best offense in the league last season, so if they can solve the goaltending situation, they will have an even better shot at breaking their curse.
