2022 PGA Championship Betting Odds & Favorites: Back Scheffler, Rahm, McIlroy

By | May 9, 2022

The current golf season has been one to remember so far and things are going to get even more exciting as we’re less than two weeks away from the sport’s next major: the 2022 PGA Championship.

Phil Mickelson shocked the world last year when he won his second PGA Championship at the age of 50. He may not come close to doing so this year, but that just goes to show the kind of moments that can occur at the event.

This year’s field will, no doubt, be as stacked as always. Several golfers are more than capable of winning it all, but it’ll come down to who wants it most at the end of the day.

Although it’s anyone’s guess as to who will walk away the winner, the latest 2022 PGA Championship odds on FanDuel Sportsbook, Caesars Sportsbook and BetRivers help paint a clearer picture as to what could go down in two weeks.

If gambling is legal in your state or area, you can’t go wrong with following the odds from those three sportsbooks, especially if you’re looking to add some fun to the upcoming tournament.

Who Are the Favorites to Win the PGA Championship in 2022?

Scottie Scheffler (Best Value 2022 PGA Championship Odds: +1100 at Caesars Sportsbook)

Scottie Scheffler is one of the top picks to win the 2022 PGA Championship, with two of the three highlighted sportsbooks listing him as the outright favorite.

Scheffler certainly doesn’t have as much experience as some of the other competitors when it comes to the tournament.

However, his two performances resulted in a T-4 finish in 2020 before placing T-8 last year, which gives bettors a lot to like this week.

Scottie Scheffler is always a threat to win any tournament that he enters.

On top of that, Scheffler has been one of the most consistent performers on the current PGA TOUR. He’s competed in 14 events so far, placing top-25 in 10 of those outings — with seven of them being top-10 finishes.

If that wasn’t impressive enough, the 25-year-old leads the tour with a total of four victories. On top of that, he has three victories in his last five outings, which includes his victory at the Masters Tournament.

With Scheffler already winning the first major, all eyes will be on him to replicate that success in Tulsa.

Jon Rahm (Best Value 2022 PGA Championship Odds: +1200 at FanDuel Sportsbook)

After winning the Mexico Open at the beginning of May, Jon Rahm is another name that could go all the way in this year’s PGA Championship.

Despite his most recent win being his first of the season, Rahm has also been consistent with his play. He’s placed top-25 in eight of his 11 outings on the tour, placing top-10 five times and top-3 a total of three times.

He was beginning to struggle in a few of his last five outings, highlighted by a T-55 finish at the PLAYERS, but he seems to be back on track now.

Fortunately, Rahm has a pretty solid track record at the PGA Championship. Although he’s yet to win the event, he’s placed T-13 or better in three of his last four appearances, including a T-8 finish last year.

With his Mexico Open victory giving him some extra momentum, look for Rahm to make an impact at the Southern Hills Country Club.

Rory McIlroy (Best Value 2022 PGA Championship Odds: +1400 at BetRivers)

When it comes to a major tournament, it can be wise to back someone who has experience winning the event. That’s why you should consider placing money on two-time PGA Championship winner Rory McIlroy.

McIlroy’s two victories came in 2012 and 2014, which isn’t that long ago once you consider how there was a 16-year difference between Mickelson’s two tournament victories.

Aside from that, McIlroy has three other top-10 finishes at the PGA Championship. Unfortunately, his last one (T-8) was in 2019 as he’s finished T-33 and T-49 in his last two entries.

Even if that’s the case, McIlroy has proven he’s still one of the best this year. He’s finished top-10 in four of his seven events played on the 2022 PGA TOUR, including a victory at the CJ Cup and a second-place finish at the Masters Tournament.

If McIlroy can demonstrate that same level of play at the PGA Championship, he’ll join Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus as the only other golfers to win it three times in the stroke-play era.
